11 Nov Your 2020 Christmas Gift Guide – Masterton Foot Clinic
Our health is one thing that you can’t push the ‘restart’ button on – and if there’s anything that’s brought this into perspective, it’s the unforgettable events of 2020.
With many now looking forward to the more exciting times ahead, namely Christmas, we thought that we’d suggest a less traditional, but perhaps more valuable and meaningful gift option for your loved ones this year – caring for and improving their health.
Why foot and leg health is the perfect gift
When you have foot and leg pain and problems, your quality of life can be significantly impacted, as can your independence, mobility and general ability to stay active and healthy. This makes a gift that is centred on improving foot and leg health, reducing the risk of injury, and maintaining good health, a thoughtful one that can have a long-term positive impact on the receiver – and genuine improvements to their lives.
You don’t need to be in pain to benefit from podiatry services. We work with everyone from kids that are just becoming confident at walking, to both professional athletes and weekend warriors, to those wanting to walk comfortably around the park with their grandkids in their golden years.
Here are five of the many services we offer that make fantastic gifts. If you have any questions about these, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
1. Fungal nail treatment
Has your loved one been struggling with a fungal toenail infection as seen by their yellow, white, brittle or lifting nails? Have you spied those bottles of pharmacy lacquers that they try to paint onto their toenails daily with little success? Give them the gift of the most effective and proven anti-fungal nail infection treatment on the market – cold laser.
Being the first in the country to pioneer this innovative treatment, it’s shown clearance rates of up to 97% in studies. Using no heat and two cold laser beams, it’s also 100% pain-free with no risks or side effects. Learn more about cold laser here.
2. Shockwave pain & injury relief
Has a loved one been struggling with ongoing pain and injury for a while – with the symptoms coming and going, or never going away at all? Shockwave is a great treatment for these chronic (ongoing) problems that has shown great success in the studies, especially for problems involving the Achilles tendon, heel pain, shin pain and more.
Shockwave uses acoustic pressure waves applied directly over the injured area to stimulate healing and repair, working directly on the injured tissues. As part of every treatment plan, we’ll show your loved one how to help prevent the problem from returning in the future, too. Learn more about shockwave here.
3. Better walking, running and movement
Whether your loved one has set a goal to run a half marathon this year, get to the top sports team, or just spend a day on their feet without their legs feeling so tired and achy, a biomechanical assessment identifies where the inefficiencies in their movement are. In other words: where the structure and function of their feet and legs is slowing them down, causing the muscles to be overused, or means they’re not performing as well as they could be.
During a biomechanical assessment, we assess the structure and function of the feet and legs, muscle strength, joint flexibility and mobility, conduct a video treadmill gait assessment, check how your footwear is impacting your movement, and more. From there, we’ll show you what’s happening with your feet and why, before telling you the best ways to correct or address the problems and inefficiencies.
4. Kids foot health check
Kids foot health checks are one of our specialities, so if you’ve noticed your loved one wondering about whether something is normal when it comes to their child’s feet, legs or the way they move, a kids foot health check could be the perfect gift.
We look for and treat problems like in-toeing, curly toes, knock knees, regular tripping and falling, foot and leg pain, growing pains, toe walking, kids warts and bumps on the feet, and much more. We can also make sure their footwear has a tick of approval for the new school year!
5. Custom foot orthotics
Custom foot orthotics change the way your feet and legs move to improve your comfort, reduce your pain and prevent injury. This makes them perfect for a wide range of people, concerns and problems – from those feeling less stable on their feet and wanting more balance and support, to those recovering from surgery or injuries, to those living with painful arthritis that want some relief and more comfort on their feet.
Our orthotics are made from a 3D scan of your foot, paired with precise measurements made by your podiatrist to ensure the best feel, fit and results for your feet. Learn more about custom foot orthotics here.
